mike tyson bitcoin Former boxing star Mike Tyson, who launched a branded bitcoin ATM in August 2015, recently launched a brand new bitcoin wallet app in partnership with Bitcoin Direct.

Interesting Features

People can use the Mike Tyson branded wallet to purchase and sell bitcoins through the Gildera Exchange. The bitcoins purchased can then be stored at any bitcoin ATM, including the one Tyson had launched in August 2015. The bitcoin wallet is available to Android as well as Apple users.

On the backdrop of the wallet, one can see Tyson’s face tattoo. According to Bitcoin Direct, the former boxer’s endorsement of the cryptocurrency will definitely encourage a larger number of people to start using bitcoins. Bitcoin Direct calls the Mike Tyson Digital Wallet as the first “celebrity associated digital wallet” in the world.

Called “Mike Tyson Digital Wallet,” the new bitcoin wallet makes use of Copay’s open source code. Copay, which was developed by BitPay Incorporated, a bitcoin payments processor, is a bitcoin wallet platform.

Bitcoin Direct’s Partnership Announcement

In its partnership announcement, Bitcoin Direct stated that it is pleased to enter into a partnership deal with Mike Tyson as he is an internationally acclaimed star who has fans from different age groups. Everybody knows Tyson, which gives him a dramatic potential to expand the Bitcoin market.

Bitcoin Direct CEO Peter Klamka said: “The Mike Tyson Digital Wallet offers beginners a simple and secure way to get started with bitcoin. Users can create wallets for sharing funds with friends, store multiple personal wallets in the same app, accept payments from friends, or pay bitcoin-accepting businesses online or in person.”

Tyson’s endorsement has definitely made the mainstream press notice the new bitcoin wallet, especially as he is the youngest boxer to win heavyweight titles such as WBA, IBF, and WBC.

Several celebrities including Ashton Kutcher, Nas, and Snoop have expressed their approval of bitcoin, but none has endorsed it the way Tyson has.

Bitcoin ATM

It may be recalled that Tyson partnered with Bitcoin Direct in July 2015 to announce a brand new branded bitcoin ATM in Las Vegas. The Mike Tyson Bitcoin ATM enables users to convert their traditional currencies into bitcoins. The ATM still exists and is being used by hundreds and thousands of bitcoin users.

Even before installing the ATM, the former boxer made it a point to spread awareness about cryptocurrencies. He had announced on his bitcoin website: “I’m grateful to be part of the bitcoin revolution and hoping that my participation in this space will lead to more conversations and help increase knowledge and awareness. In no way do I profess to be any kind of bitcoin currency guru. It just seems very interesting and I’m intrigued with the possibilities.”

According to Coin ATM Radar, a website that tracks bitcoin ATMs, the machine was rolled out by Lamassu, a company that manufactures ATM machine. It is different from other machines because it bears Tyson’s photo. However, it is a one-way model—it can be used only to purchase bitcoins.
