The Face behind Bitcoin, a Newsweek article of March 6, 2014, written by Leah McGrath Goodman, reveals the identity of Bitcoin’s creator.

Bitcoin Creator Prefers Humble Life

Satoshi Nakamoto turns out to be a quiet person who prefers to live in his family home at San Gabriel in Los Angeles. He was least interested to talk about Bitcoin, the most popular digital currency in the world; but he acknowledged that he had indeed created Bitcoin. He said: “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it. It’s been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now. I no longer have any connection.”

Everybody had believed that Satoshi Nakamoto was the pseudonym of a Japanese whiz kid living in Tokyo. But the founder of Bitcoin turned out to be a 64-year-old Japanese American whose real name is Satoshi Nakamoto, a man who loves collecting models of train and has lived a secret life, part of it spent on working for the US military and some major corporations.

Nakamoto’s Evasiveness

Goodman, who had obtained Nakamoto’s email address through a company that sells him model trains, exchanged emails with him for two weeks before meeting him. However, when asked about Bitcoin, Nakamoto stopped responding to Goodman’s emails.

Andresen, who says that he has worked closely with Satoshi Nakamoto between June 2010 and April 2011, calls Nakamoto an evasive person. Although they communicated through “email or private message on the Bitcointalk forum,” Nakamoto never answered any questions regarding his personal life.

After 2011, Nakamoto stopped proposing changes to the software and kept away from the forum. But on April 26, 2011, he wrote Andresen the following email: “I wish you wouldn’t keep talking about me as a mysterious shadowy figure. The press just turns that into a pirate currency angle. Maybe instead make it about the open source project and give more credit to your dev contributors; it helps motivate them.”

Nakamoto’s Early Life

Nakamoto, who is today a father of six, was born in July 1949 in a poor Buddhist family. His family members say that he is a very intelligent, but moody man who is obsessed with privacy. He has not even used the name Satoshi for the last four decades. Ever since 1973, he has been calling himself “Dorian S. Nakamoto.” His second wife Mitchell says that Nakamoto might have created a digital currency because he was frustrated with high exchange rates and bank fees.

The big question now is why Nakamoto is not spending bitcoins worth millions of dollars, which he owns. According to Andresen, Nakamoto does not want to have anything to do with Bitcoin because he values his privacy. He said: “If you come out as the leader of Bitcoin, now you have to make appearances and presentations and comments to the press and that didn’t really fit with Satoshi’s personality. He didn’t really want to lead it anymore. He was pretty intolerant to incompetence. And he also realized the project would go on without him.”
